The Purpose of Feature Wall Coverings

The Purpose of Feature Wall Coverings

Designing an office is a multi-layered activity. You start off with space planning and making sure the area is fit for purpose, followed up by designing for specific requirements e.g. comms rooms, cleaners’ cupboards etc. Next it is important to ensure that you have accounted for mechanical and electrical needs. Then you can start considering the more exciting side of designing a new workspace such as choosing new furniture and fittings to complement the layout. You can decide which colours will work with the brand to present a professional image to clients and adding all the extra elements which bring everything together e.g. accent lighting, flooring and feature wallcoverings.

The purpose of all of these is to create focal points in the design and by using wallcoverings it creates a large area of interest in what could potentially be an uninspiring environment.

Feature walls come in many guises and you would be hard-pressed to find one that 3-Space hasn’t worked with. We use a number of tried and trusted suppliers and have access to every wall covering that you could think of. Each type has their own reason for being and here are a few of our favourite examples.

Murals

Murals can be simply a playful image, a calming scape or can be a way to display a brand image which encourages productivity in the office as it creates a sense of unity and purpose.

Textured Wall Covering

Textured wall coverings can make an office feel more natural and organic and gives it less of an industrial appearance. It adds dimension to a room and can hide imperfections in the walls and is often more durable than standard wallpaper or paint. As textured wall covering comes in a vast range of colours, there will always be something to tie in with branding guidelines.

Geometric Wallcoverings

Geometric wallcoverings have repeating patterns or tiles and can add an element of movement to an office space and again, come in all shapes, sizes, and colour so they can be tailored to the company’s brand.

Green & Living Walls

Green / living walls are immensely popular currently as staff wellbeing has become a greater priority for employers over the past few years. Biophilia in all its forms provides a sense of calm into an office environment and brings the outside world in. The advantage of a green wall is that is provides a focal point and uses wall space rather than impinging on the floorplate.

Feature walls are a significant element of an office’s design for numerous reasons as they demonstrate a commitment to the workspace and chosen correctly can help the company’s identity shine through.
